Minecraft Live 2024 just wrapped up, and while it may not be the most exciting Minecraft Live we've had so far, Mojang still has some exciting new features and content for us in the coming year! Let’s dive into everything announced, including a new update, the long-awaited Hardcore mode for Bedrock Edition, a new biome, and a sneak peek at the Minecraft movie.
TL;DR
- Bundles of Bravery Update: Bundles are finally here, and Bedrock Edition gets Hardcore mode.
- Minecraft Movie Sneak Peek: Exciting new clip and behind-the-scenes looks.
- New Biome, The Pale Garden: Introducing eerie vibes, pale oak wood, and the new hostile mob, the Crein.
- Update Style Changes: Smaller, more frequent updates and the removal of the mob vote.
Bundles of Bravery Update
This year’s update title is the Bundles of Bravery update. The name itself is a nod to two long-awaited features: Bundles and Hardcore Mode for Bedrock Edition. Here’s what you can expect:
Bundles
Finally, Bundles are coming out of their experimental phase. If you’re unfamiliar, bundles are a fantastic tool that allows you to manage your inventory more efficiently. With a bundle, you can stack multiple different items into a single inventory slot, up to the usual limit of 64. This means you’ll have more space in your inventory when gathering smaller stacks of different items.
A neat bonus? Bundles are dyeable! Just like with armor, you can color-code your bundles to keep everything organized and looking stylish.
Hardcore Mode for Bedrock Edition
One of the big updates is that Hardcore Mode is finally making its way to Bedrock Edition. Java Edition players have had this nail-biting experience since 2010, but now Bedrock players can enjoy (or dread) the challenge as well. In Hardcore mode, you only get one life—if you die, that's the end of your world, and there’s no respawning. Now, Bedrock players can join the fun, or frustration, of seeing just how far they can survive.
Minecraft Movie Sneak Peek
In a surprising twist, we got a sneak peek at the Minecraft Movie! The short clip showed off some crafting action and teased an intense scene with a hammer and blade—Minecraft's blocky style really comes to life here. Along with the clip, we also got to see some behind-the-scenes footage of the movie's interior sets. It's clear that a lot of love and care is going into making the world of Minecraft as immersive as possible on the big screen.
New Biome: The Pale Garden
The standout feature from this year's announcements is the introduction of the Pale Garden, a haunting new biome that brings an eerie atmosphere to Minecraft. The Pale Garden is designed to make players feel uneasy. Here’s how it works:
- The music will be muted, and the colors of the biome will be desaturated, creating a spooky, unsettling vibe.
- Eerie noises will randomly play, further adding to the discomfort of exploring this biome.
But that’s not all—the Pale Garden also introduces pale oak wood, a new off-white wood type with grayish logs that will open up more design possibilities for builders. The visuals of this biome are sure to give your game a ghostly, muted aesthetic.
Meet the Creaking: A New Hostile Mob
The Pale Garden also introduces a terrifying new hostile mob called the Creaking. What makes the Creaking so unique is that it has mechanics similar to the Weeping Angels from Doctor Who—it only moves and attacks when you’re not looking at it. Traditional combat won’t work against this mob either. To defeat it, you’ll need to find and destroy the Creaking Heart Block, which is its weak point. Once destroyed, the Creaking will be defeated.
For the collectors out there, the Creaking Heart Block can be harvested using the Silk Touch enchantment and placed down again later—so it’s not just a combat mechanic but also a trophy for your base!
Mojang's New Update Approach
Lastly, Mojang announced a shift in their approach to updates. Instead of the massive content-packed releases we’ve seen in the past, they’ll be focusing on smaller, more frequent updates to keep the game fresh with more regular content drops. Oh, and say goodbye to the Mob Vote—this popular community event has been removed for the time being.
That’s all for Minecraft Live 2024! Whether you’re excited about Hardcore mode in Bedrock, eager to explore the new Pale Garden biome, or just hyped for the movie, there’s a lot to look forward to in the world of Minecraft.
