Welcome to the Rust Update Recap for August 2024! Rust's new update, titled "Stay Alert", introduces several new features, improvements, and bug fixes that will enhance your gameplay experience. From new traps to quality-of-life changes, here’s everything you need to know.
Tin Can Alarm
One of the standout additions this month is the Tin Can Alarm, a primitive trap made from hanging tin cans. When someone crosses its wire, it creates a loud clatter, alerting everyone nearby. This trap can be deployed anywhere, from your base to inside monuments, making it a versatile tool for securing your territory.
As basic as it sounds, it can become your best friend for detecting nearby players!
Enhanced Sound Mechanics
Better be careful when hiding in bushes...Replicated Bush Sounds have been introduced, making bush rustles audible to nearby players.
Luckily, moving slower results in quieter sounds, so you can still attack other players from them, just be sure to do it carefully.
Realistic Underwater Item Behavior
Items dropped in water will now sink more realistically, moving slower and getting affected by currents. They will also emit bubbles, making it easier to locate them on the ocean floor.
Zipline Improvements
The powerline zipline is a pretty fun way to get around the map. Some improvements to its system were introduced in the latest update:
- Ziplines now pick the furthest possible destination.
- Maximum length increased from 150m to 185m.
- Ziplines can now terminate at higher points on the powerline structure.
- You can no longer be dismounted by trees while ziplining.
These improvements should result in longer, higher, and safer ziplines.
NPC Vendor Price Adjustments
The team at Facepunch noticed that the dynamic vendor pricing system wan't working very well, so it's been tweaked in the latest update:
- Price changes now operate in real-time rather than in-game time.
- Price changes occur every 5 real-time hours instead of every 15 minutes.
These adjustments aim to create a more balanced and understandable pricing system.
Quality of Life Changes
The quality-of-life in Rust is better than ever! These are the changes that Facepunch introduced this August:
- Trains can now break through barricades too close to the tracks.
- Bikes and Snowmobiles can be driven onto cargo containers and moved onto cargo ships, and can also go down elevators.
- Improved controls for sidecar bikes and faster turns for bikes using the crouch key.
- Horses can now enter terrain holes like train tunnels and launch site ramps.
- New sound effects for switching gun fire modes.
- Ability to walk through storage adaptors attached to boxes.
- Option to turn off the blood-on-screen effect when hurt.
- The last entered code on code locks is saved between sessions.
Fixed Issues
It's not all cool new features, Facepunch also introduced numerous bug fixes, addressing issues with traveling vendors, pagers in horse saddlebags, junkpile interactions, patrol helicopters, and more!
Shockbyte Partnership
Facepunch announced their partnership with Shockbyte! Known for our reliable multiplayer servers, Shockbyte offers full file access, customization, oxide support and more!
As a promotional offer, new customers will receive an exclusive in-game Tool Cupboard skin when renting a server of any tier. Find out how to get it here: How to Get the Rust Shockbyte Tool Cupboard Skin.
